Making the science of inheritance clear for everyone

Mawarith Pro began with a simple frustration: the rules of Islamic inheritance are precise, fair, and beautifully structured — yet most people meet them only in a moment of grief, when a relative has died and no one quite knows who is owed what. Families guess. Disputes follow. Rights granted by Allah are sometimes quietly lost. We built this site so that the correct answer, and the reasoning behind it, would be a few clicks away for anyone.

What we offer

Two things, kept deliberately free and ad-supported so they stay open to all:

  • A calculator that takes a list of surviving heirs and an optional estate value and returns each share as an exact fraction, percentage, and amount — together with a plain-English explanation of every ruling it applied.
  • A growing library of articles and a complete guide that teach the underlying science, al-Farāʾiḍ, from first principles.

Our sources

The rules implemented here are drawn from the primary sources of the Sharīʿah and the classical works of farāʾiḍ:

  • The Qurʾān — chiefly Sūrat al-Nisāʾ, verses 11, 12, and 176, which fix most of the shares directly.
  • The authentic Sunnah, including the inheritance aḥādīth in the collections of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
  • The consensus (ijmāʿ) of the Companions and the established positions of the four Sunni schools of law.

Our methodology

Where the schools agree, we implement the agreed rule. Where the common cases are concerned, we follow the position of the majority (Jumhūr). The calculator uses exact rational arithmetic — true fractions, not decimals — so there are no rounding errors, and it applies the doctrines of ʿawl and radd exactly as the classical texts describe.

Honesty about the hard cases

A few configurations have divided scholars since the time of the Companions — the grandfather inheriting alongside siblings, al-Mushtaraka, al-Akdariyya. We do not paper over these. When your case touches one, the tool says so and advises you to consult a qualified scholar rather than presenting a single answer as definitive.

What we are not

Mawarith Pro is an educational and planning tool, not a muftī and not a court. It cannot weigh contested facts, verify who is truly an heir, resolve disputes, or issue a binding ruling. For an actual estate, it is a powerful way to understand and prepare — but the final, binding division should always be confirmed with a knowledgeable scholar or an Islamic court. Please read our Terms & disclaimer.

Independence and funding

The site is provided free of charge. To cover its costs it displays advertising, which is clearly labelled and kept away from the calculator's controls and results so it never interferes with the rulings you came for. Advertising revenue does not influence the fiqh content in any way; the rulings follow the sources, full stop.
